Opportunity Information: Apply for PAS AR200 FY21 01
The U.S. Embassy Buenos Aires Small Grants Program is a funding opportunity run by the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Mission to Argentina to support Argentine-led projects that strengthen ties between the United States and Argentina. It is a discretionary grant program (Funding Opportunity Number: PAS AR200 FY21 01; CFDA: 19.040) focused on public diplomacy style initiatives, with awards generally ranging from USD 10,000 to USD 100,000. While applicants can request a specific amount within that range, the Embassy notes it may award less or more than requested if it determines that is in the U.S. Government's best interest.
Proposals are accepted and reviewed in two cycles, with closeout deadlines set for December 31, 2020 at 5:00 PM (Argentina local time) and May 31, 2021 at 5:00 PM (Argentina local time). The published original closing date for the opportunity is May 31, 2021. The Agency administering the program is the U.S. Mission to Argentina through its Public Affairs Section in Buenos Aires.
Eligible applicants include Argentine individuals as well as Argentine educational institutions, cultural organizations, and non-profit organizations registered in Argentina. The program is designed for projects that have a clear public-facing or community impact and that directly advance mutual understanding and cooperation between the two countries, rather than supporting internal organizational growth for its own sake.
Funding priorities fall into three main areas. The first is promoting U.S.-Argentine shared values, which includes projects highlighting aspects of U.S. culture such as music, history, sports, education, and English language learning and teaching. It also covers activities like workshops, exchanges, and speaker programs that build connections and deepen mutual understanding between people in both countries. Within this area, the program also prioritizes educational exchange and the internationalization of higher education, including partnerships in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM), especially for Argentine youth. Proposals that encourage social development and help reduce inequality, particularly for marginalized populations, are specifically favored.
The second priority area is strengthening prosperity. This includes projects that support economic growth and a better business climate, encourage entrepreneurship and innovation, promote corporate social responsibility, and advance respect for intellectual property rights. In practical terms, this could involve programming that helps communities or sectors build skills, networks, or knowledge that contribute to inclusive economic opportunity.
The third priority area is reinforcing democracy, freedom, and transparency. The Embassy is interested in programs that promote good governance, open data, and stronger, more transparent democratic institutions. It also supports projects that advance human rights and civil society goals such as racial and ethnic equality, gender equality, women's empowerment, diversity, and social inclusion. A related emphasis is on freedom of the press, particularly efforts that improve investigative journalism, increase transparency, and help counter disinformation.
The program also clearly lists what it will not fund. Grant funds cannot be used for religious activities, partisan political activities, fundraising campaigns, commercial projects or for-profit ventures, individual academic research projects, or construction. It also will not support projects primarily aimed at an organization's institutional development (for example, general operating capacity-building that is not tied to a specific public program) or an individual's personal enrichment or career development.Apply for PAS AR200 FY21 01
